England Begin Euro 2024 Qualification With Comfortable Victory Over Ukraine

Three Lions Triumph in First Match of New Campaign

England got their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ukraine at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Goals from Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka secured the three points for Gareth Southgate's side, who dominated the match from start to finish.

Kane opened the scoring in the 32nd minute with a clinical finish from close range after good work from Raheem Sterling. Saka doubled the lead just before the hour mark with a superb solo effort, beating two defenders before firing home.

Ukraine offered little threat going forward and England could have won by a more convincing margin had they been more clinical in front of goal. However, Southgate will be pleased with the performance of his team, who controlled the game throughout and looked comfortable in possession.

England are now top of Group H after the first round of fixtures, level on points with Italy who also won their opening match against Malta. Ukraine and Malta are bottom of the group with zero points.

England's next match in the Euro 2024 qualifiers is away to Italy in Rome on June 16.
